On our dream trip we visited a first world country in
Western Europe.
Germany.
In this country we visited one of the Nazi
concentration camps called Sachsenhausen, this is located in Orianenburg 40
kilometers from Berlin, they explained to us that this concentration camp was
built in 1936 and housed more than 200,000 prisoners. It was intended to
exploit the prisoners by forcing them to work in very poor conditions. Many
people died in these camps because of the conditions in which they lived and
because they were killed. Within this camp, what most caught our attention were
the gas chambers where they put the prisoners to assassinate them, so that they
would not suspect they were told that they were going to take them to the
showers. Some were just being shot. Then the bodies were removed from their
dentures in case they had any gold teeth and with the skin they got to make
lamps, soaps and much more. What was left of the bodies was cremated in the
ovens and the ashes were used as compost.
We were surprised by the heavy work that the
prisoners did, there was a very large track where they had to test the quality
of the shoes they made and put them to walk around 40 kilometers a day, some of
them died from sunstroke and fatigue.
We also visited the famous Berlin Wall and the
Holocaust Memorial. They are both full of a great and very interesting story.
We stayed at the Hilton hotel for three days. On our first day the weather was
cold, on our second day it was rainy for that reason we could not visit the
philharmonic orchestra and listen to the beauty of their melodies. Finally our
third day was warmer and we were able to go out and buy souvenirs for our
families. We hope to return soon.
